Gilbert is a town in Maricopa County, located just southeast of Phoenix, the state Capital of Arizona. The region, which is popular for its plentiful sun, warm year-round temperatures and dry desert climate, boasts many fast-growing cities and towns. Gilbert had a population of 191,517, according to the 2006 U.S. Census Bureau report.
Although it is large and growing rapidly, Gilbert is still incorporated as a town rather than as a city. Gilbert is the largest unincorporated town in the United States and one of the largest such communities in North America, second only to Markham, Ontario, Canada. Gilbert earned the distinction as the fastest-growing community in all of Arizona between 1990 and 2000.

Gilbert, Arizona is a bedroom community with plenty of homes for sale in just about every price range. The community's population is diverse, with an average household size of 3.10 residents.
There are now about 35,405 households in Gilbert, of which 50.8% have children under the age of 18. Just over 69% of households are made up of married couples living together, while 8.3% have a female householder with no husband present and 18.3% are comprised of non-families.
