Gilbert is a town in Maricopa County, located just southeast of Phoenix, the state Capital of Arizona. The region, which is popular for its plentiful sun, warm year-round temperatures and dry desert climate, boasts many fast-growing cities and towns. Although it is large and growing rapidly, Gilbert is still incorporated as a town rather than as a city. Gilbert is the largest unincorporated town in the United States and one of the largest such communities in North America, second only to Markham, Ontario, Canada. Gilbert earned the distinction as the fastest-growing community in all of Arizona between 1990 and 2000.
